I wanted to arrive in Prince George, Virginia on Thursday afternoon to visit my friend Virginia, who taught Maths with me at Channel Islands High School, super-cool person and super-cool mom to (almost 5 year old) Michalis.
I had planned a very nice scenic route that would take us 2 days and keep us off the big interstate highways and allow us to see the natural beauty and small towns of New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia. The planned distance was 270-280 miles (450 km) a day.
The first day however, there were a lot of backroads, detours, a bit of traffic and a lot of street lights. Although we had left Wappingers Falls at 9am, we didn't get into Delaware until after 5pm. You know, there's only so many times Noa can watch the same DVD of Teletubbies before we start doing irreversible brain damage. So we decided to find a closer campground and take a much shorter route the next day. As it turned out the shorter route went through the Maryland countryside and was very pretty indeed!
Here's a little video we made at Lums Pond State Park in Delaware of us and our RV:
Now (Friday morning) we are setting off on a 5 day trip through the Blue Ridge Parkway and Smokey Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina, accross Tennessee and Arkansas, ending up on Wednesday afternoon in Rogers, Arkansas to visit my dad.
Don't know if we'll have internet access along the way, although some campsites do have wi-fi and we brought our laptop just in case...
