Wappingers Falls NY

Our first stop on our cross country trip was to Wappingers Falls just south of Poughkeepsie, New York to see Margreet's childhood friend Roos (pron. Rose) and her family.

Who would have thought that these two girls from the Dutch countryside would both end up marrying Americans, but that is just what happened. Roos' husband Jeremy is a high school math teacher who likes games and baseball, so we were bound to get along. Luckily he wasn't a Yankee fan! Roos' two sons Jacob and Justin, 6 and 4, are adorable and spent the whole time looking after Noa and singing on American Idol on their Wii (I tried it too - now I must convince Margreet to buy it!).

We had just come from 2 days in Manhattan and 1 day driving the RV from South Amboy, New Jersey, so Noa was feeling a little cooped up, so it was very nice to arrive in Roos' large, Noa-friendly house, so that she was able to wander around with little supervision and let out some energy! What little supervision needed was ably provided by Noa's new protectors, Jacob and Justin! Nice relief for us. Gave Margreet and Roos some time to drink some wine and catch up and for Jeremy and I to catch the baseball games on TV (sweeeeet ...)

Roos also made a birthday cake for Margreet as she is turning 32 on the 3rd! Here's a video of us singing Happy Birthday to Margreet and Margreet showing her appreciation by (almost) spitting on the cake:

Driving up from the NYC area the hour or two to get to Wappingers Falls is quite the scenic drive along the Hudson river. Very mountainy - we even saw a ski slope!
